The dreamy look of a couple is what attracted me to this batch of Paton knitting books.
For those who know me I am a tad obsessive with haunting the local Vinnie’s as there is something voyeuristic about exploring the past.
Its funny these shops still hold on to copies of Paton catalogues that are mouldy and folded to bits.
But I understand why shopkeepers do this; the original copies are reminders of good times shared in the past.
The innocent language including “Go gay with vertical stripes,” will never be looked at the same way again.
Back then Gay meant happy now it means two men in a relationship or in teenage slang “That’s so Gay man.”
What I enjoy most about the Paton bibles is how they evoke daydreams about what it was like in the 1950’s and 60’s.
I would love to rewind time and explore a past when high-buttoned cardigans became a sexy target for office wolves.
But alas I am a Generation Y species where Beyoncé, Britney Spears and Miranda Kerr rule the fashion posse!.
